Help at home
Friendly help with everyday technology
If something isn't working, or you're not sure how to use it, get in touch. You don't need to know what the problem is — describing it however makes sense to you is enough.
Describing it in the form is usually easiest — it takes a minute and doesn't commit you to anything. If you'd rather talk it through, phone me instead.
What happens
How it works
-
You get in touch
Send a message or call, and describe the problem in your own words. If I can talk you through it there and then, I will.
-
We agree a time and a price
I'll tell you what I think is involved and what it will cost before I come out. If it isn't worth paying me for, I'll say so.
-
I come and sort it
I'll explain what I'm doing as I go, in plain English, and show you how to manage it yourself next time if you'd like.

How I work
Safe, sensible practice
Being asked for the wrong thing is how a lot of people get caught out. So here's exactly what I will and won't ask you for.
Your privacy matters. You will never be asked to hand over banking passwords or PINs.
- You type your own passwords wherever it's possible — I don't need to see them.
- I'll never ask for a bank PIN, a full card number or a security code.
- I can show you how online banking works, but I won't operate your account for you.
- You're welcome to have someone else there, and to watch everything I do.
- I'll explain what I'm changing before I change it.
- If I can't fix something, I'll tell you rather than keep charging you.
I can help you spot suspicious emails and messages, and set devices up more safely. What I can't do is promise you'll never be targeted — anyone who guarantees that isn't being straight with you.
Costs
What it costs
Prices depend on the work required. You'll always know the cost before work begins.
Home visit
Includes the first hour at your home and travel within the local area. Most everyday problems are sorted well inside it. If yours needs longer, I'll tell you what the extra will cost before I carry on.
A quick question
If it's something I can talk you through in a couple of minutes on the phone, I'm not going to charge you for it. Do just ring and ask.
Not sure whether it's worth calling someone out? Ring and describe it — I'll tell you honestly.
Not sure where to start?
That's completely normal, and it's not a problem. Describe what's happening in whatever words make sense — working out what's actually wrong is my job, not yours.
